Never ever ever go shopping on an empty stomach. Everything looks good then. You buy a whole bunch of rubbish and precious little in the way of servicable meals.
The same idea applies to wedding registries. Get an idea in your head first. "We'll need X and I wouldn't mind Y and perhaps we could do with Z"
Otherwise you go to make the list, everything looks good and you end up with a registry filled with lawnmowers and fourty variations on a George Foreman grill for "choice".
Oh and combine the two ideas. Don't browse kitchen tools or cookery things until after lunch or you'll be famished.
(Note for people eyeing up appliances for us, we'll be living in Ireland. All appliances would need a transformer and a plug adaptor as they just won't work here)

The Price of Love
Many times I have heard that people are jealous of the relationship Shannon and I have. I cannot really blame them. She is utterly fantastic in every way. Right now on my desktop I have a series of letters she has written for me to read at various points through the day.
The price of love is this. Five years on, five wonderful years leading to our marriage in the New Year, it still hurts when she's gone.
It's never gotten easier, only familiar.
And you know what? It's still worth it. She's still worth it. At least though it's almost at a close.
Shannon when you get this, I love you.

What are we missing?
Just a quick update.
We visited the Registrar. Despite not yet having a Priest, it was painless and quick.
We made the deposit on the hotel. Also painless ... well as much as giving anyone €500 can be.
So far so good.
Next hurdle. People, confirmations, flights and invitations.
Yeah we can do this.

Bullet points, I has them
- Invitation wording selected
- Priest shortlisted.
That's the done column.
The problem is to get to the Priest I think we may go with.... we have to go via the Nanny. Nanny whom I haven't visited in sometime.
This will be a wee unpleasant.
In other news, deposit on the venue this week!

Spontaneousness?
Right, first things first. I'm Shannon, gunna marry Jonathan. I'm from California though the last couple of years I've been spending nearly half the year in Ireland. After five years of dating we've decided to get married. Though a lot of the planning is already done, Jonathan wanted to do this. I don't mind so much, I enjoy writing from time to time.
Common questions I've been getting, heres the answers:
No, Jonathan didn't ask me. We mutually decided we were ready.
No, I don't have a ring, yet.
Yes, I will be getting one soon we have been looking and just haven't decided yet.
Yes, he will be asking me sometime after we get the ring. We like to do things backwards.
Thats all for now.

First Hurdle. July 4th
Stolen from my other blog and reposted here to get things moving.
I need a suit. This is quite obivous.
So Shannon and I went to Black Tie on O'Connell bridge to obtain said suit.
Two positives, there was a competition one could enter to win a €3000 holiday voucher, and we found a suit that worked.
Negative, nothing in the store fit me, but I'm used to that.
So we made an appointment to come back and try on properly scaled items. I was measured and we were told we could enter the competition on our return as there was "no rush".
Yesterday we went back. The competition was over, and one lucky couple won the €3000 voucher.
Turned out the last day for entry was the 30th of June and the guy who helped us previously neglected to mention that. Secondly, despite having measured me, no one ordered in a sufficiently large white shirt, so we need to do it all again.
I dont mind however as I found the waistcoat rather amusing (though that too was too short).
Fun fact : I can't say waistcoat for some reason recently. It comes out as waistcoast.

The who, the what and the why
Who!
I'm Jonathan. Born and bred Irish guy. Love MMOs, books, movies, lego, Warhammer, games and so on. More on my blog Echoes of Nonsense.
What?
Well I've been trying to get into blogging again. This is as good a reason as any.
Why?
People always make out that getting married is a tough thing. That it's full of mishaps, mayhem and madness. So far, I've not had any major trouble. So I figure a blog that shows us on our way to being a full and proper Us can't be a bad idea.
Hopefully Shannon will chime in soon.
